GILBY AMERICAN LEGION

The American Legion is the largest auxiliary for war-time veterans in the US. After WWII, many small communities throughout the country constructed an American Legion building, thanks in part to a government grant program and plenty of veterans after the war. The legion halls hosted weddings, anneversaries, quilting parties, you name it. As with the rest of the population in North Dakota, the number of war veterans living in small communities dwindled, and soon thereafter the American Legion halls fell into disuse. This one in Gilby still hosts the occassional party, and is always prepared for Christmas.
